A Day in the Life of a Content Creator…

A content creator’s day goes far beyond filming and scrolling. What really happens behind the scenes, how planning and data shape every post, and why no two days are ever the same.

Have you ever wondered what a content creator does all day? From the outside, it might look like filming a few videos and scrolling online, but there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes.

As a content creator and apprentice working in social media, no two days are exactly the same. Some days are spent filming, while others are focused on editing, planning ideas, working with influencers or looking at analytics.

Starting the Day

My day usually starts by checking what content needs to be worked on and community management. I look at my schedule and any tasks that need to be completed so I know what I need to focus on and I will reply to any comments, mentions or tags on all of our clients accounts.

I also like to check social media to see what is currently trending. This can give me inspiration for new content ideas and help me understand what people are engaging with.

Planning Content

Before filming anything, I need to have an idea of what I am creating. I think about the target audience, the platform the content is going on, trends and what type of content is likely to perform well. Sometimes I will look back at previous analytics to see which videos have performed well and think about how I could recreate or develop those ideas.

Planning is important because it makes filming much easier and helps make sure the content has a clear purpose.

Filming

Once I know what I am creating, it is time to film.

Filming can involve anything from creating short form videos for TikTok and Instagram to filming specific content for a brand. I often need to think about lighting, camera angles, backgrounds, sounds and making sure the product or main focus is clearly shown.

Editing

After filming, I move on to editing. This is one of my favourite parts because I can take all the separate clips and turn them in to one finished piece of content. I choose the best clips, cut them together, add transitions, text, sounds and anything else needed to make the video engaging. I also make sure the video works for the platform it is being posted on.

Editing is where an idea really starts to come together.

Checking Performance

Creating the content is only part of the job. I also look at how content performs once it has been posted. I check things such as views, likes, comments, shares and follower growth. Looking at analytics helps me understand what the audience enjoys and what could be improved next time. For example, if a particular style of video gets a lot of engagement, I can use what I have learnt to help plan future content.

The Best Part

One of my favourite things about being a content creator is that every day can be different. One day I could be filming, the next I could be editing, planning a campaign or researching new ideas. It is a job that combines creativity with strategy. You are not just making content that looks good, you also need to understand your audience, keep up with social media trends and use data to improve what you create.

Being a content creator can definitely be busy, but seeing a piece of content go live and perform well makes all the planning, filming and editing worth it.
